Finally get the try this place again. Last time there was for lunch with my group of coworker and as I ordered the bento box, there was nothing really special to talk about.
I don't know why this sushi place never come across my mind for the last 2 years and all in a sudden when I was reading yelp and looking for a sushi place. This place pop up and I know it's time for me to give a try!
I have to say it was a very pleasant experience. Not many sushi restaurants in Vallejo provide this quality of sushi. I love they have many choices on their menu. So many to try so I have to return for second time in a week. I will definitely come back for more. I think they updated their menu since 2 years ago, so make sure to return if you haven't!
On the side note, I think door dash deliver. So if you want to stay at home and enjoy some nice sushi, this is a place to go! -

One of the decent places in Vallejo with reasonable price and varieties of sushi selection. Had sushi at Matsuri during happy hours. Ordered five dishes for two.
Vegetable Tempura - one shrimp and assorted fried vegetables like broccoli, pumpkin, onion, etc
Ebi Tempura - three shrimps per serving, fried Tempura is quite crispy
Spider Roll - if soft shell crab is your choice, you should try it.
Matsuri Roll - a roll with good varieties of tuna, salmon, snow crab, and shrimp tempura. This roll would have been tastier if the shrimp tempura isn't stale or over cooked.
Mushroom Boom - a great appetizer dish to start. Personally, I enjoyed this dish! It has a good combination of mushroom and salmon, which are two things that I like.
Overall, the experience at Matsuri is a 3.5 for me considering food selection and taste, service, and restaurant interior environment. -

The food here is just okay. I got take out here once, and they got my order wrong. I asked for the Philadelphia roll, and it ended up being just salmon and rice. The lion king (I think) was good. The tempura wasn't worth getting. The ikura wasn't great.
I tried to call to order take out again a couple weeks ago. They told me to hold right when they picked up. I waited through about 3 minutes of silence before hanging up. Called again and line was busy. I waited five minutes and called again. Line was still busy. I ended up getting sushi somewhere else. I drove by the restaurant on my way to the other place, and there were maybe 3 or 4 cars in the lot. Maybe they were busy when I called, but it just pissed me off.
Edit: I've since eaten here and gotten take out a couple more times recently and have been pleasantly surprised. Service in restaurant was average. Price was average for sushi, and presentation was nice. Take out has been much easier. The people over the phone have been very nice, and have been offered me water if I wait there which is a nice touch. -

Had no idea about this Sushi gem in Vallejo. When you are craving your favorite you figure things out: I checked yelp as that is my go to whenever I'm unsure of my restaurant options in the area and was intrigued by the photos of beautiful sushi rolls AND Happy hour from 4:30 to 6. The offering of 4 and 6 dollar plates was a deal maker.
We arrived at 5 the bar was pretty full the Chef was busy rolling up, Sushi. We were promptly seated at a table. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable even though she appeared to be young. Ice cold water with lemon was brought to us right away . We were ready to order and she was ready to take our order. Life was good! We decided on the Dragonfly because it contained all the things I require in a roll-unagi,crab,shrimp tempura, avocado, cucumber and roe. It was a decent roll. There were a few pieces in the roll that either did not have unagi on top (look closely at photo) or the shrimp tempura was missing or only had the crust no shrimp. A pet peeve for me with sushi is if it doesn't hold its shape. This fell apart horribly and the rice seemed to be old. As a matter of fact I felt that way about the shrimp used to make the roll as well. The spider roll was about the same with the fall apart issues and old rice. Gyoza reminded me of the frozen you can buy at the supermarket. The dipping sauce for the rolls was flavorless I had to add soy and ask for teriyaki to doctor it up. The tempura fries were hot and delicious. The Fried tofu wasn't quite what I expected but I wont say it was bad. I would like to highlight the water and I'm not being sarcastic. Some restaurants have horrible tasting water. The water here was clean filtered water, no tap water taste at all . I literally drank 3 glasses. I wish I could give more stars but I cannot all things considered..unless they keep the ingredients as fresh as the water! 3 stars -

Honestly shook that it took me nearly a year of living in Vallejo to finally try this place. I've been passing by fairly often to go to Planet Fitness, but never had the time until today. Perfect sushi getaway for students on the island. Space was so much bigger than I had anticipated. My friend and I ordered takeout expecting it to be a long a wait, but we were in and out within 15 minutes! It is definitely not a surprise that the Matsuri roll was fan favorite since thats the name of the restaurant and my favorite now, as well. I also enjoyed the titanic roll (off the menu), which was very similar to the Matsuri with main ingredients soft shell crab, salmon, cucumber, avocado, masago, green onions. Will be taking all my classmates here and my new sushi go-to.
